Do you know the differences between a wired security system and a wireless security system?
A wired security system requires wiring the system throughout the house and is usually installed by a professional alarm company.
A wireless security system uses remote signals and batteries. Wireless security systems have grown in popularity in recent years.
Wired Security System
To have a wired alarm system, the wires should be placed during the construction of the home. Sometimes, if there is an addition to the home or for example, an unfinished basement, the control panel can be placed there and the rest of the home wired from it. However, if an existing home was not wired for a security system when built and is completely finished, a wireless system might be the best option.
Wired alarm systems are easy to maintain and require only one battery to be changed every 5 years or so.
Wireless Security System
Each sensor in a wireless alarm system has batteries that require replacement every few years. However, each sensor is monitored daily by the main CPU.
Wireless systems are also able to travel with you. For example, if you buy your first home and get a wireless security system, when you upgrade your home, you can take your security system with you.
Which kind of security system should you choose?
If your home is already wired for a security system, it might make sense to choose a wired security system. Also, if you don’t want to replace multiple batteries, a wired system is the best choice.
If your home isn’t wired and you don’t want the hassle of dealing with wiring, a wireless system might be a better choice. Also, if you’re in a temporary place but want the peace of mind from a security system, a wireless system would be a great option. Replacing the batteries every few years is generally a simple process.
